Guide to supported file formats.

FARO (.fls)

FLS is Faro's binary format for gridded scan data. To import a Faro scan file you must first install the latest FARO LS SDK from the Faro website. A Faro Import Trouble Shooting Guide is available for download.

Zoller+Frohlich (.zfs)

ZFS is Zoller+Frohlich's binary format for gridded scan data. ZFS files may contain color and registration information.

ZFS is used for import of gridded point cloud data.

Trimble (.tzf)

TZF is Trimble's binary format for gridded scan data. TZF files may contain registration transforms and is often colorized.

importTZF is used for of gridded point cloud data.

Recap (.rcp)

RCP is Autodesk's format for pointcloud representation. Both import and export are available.

e57 ASTM Standard (.e57)

e57 file format is a compact, vendor-neutral format for storing point clouds, images, and metadata produced by 3D imaging systems, such as laser scanners.

e57 is used for import and export of gridded or unified point cloud data.

Leica (.ptx)

PTX is an ASCII based interchange format for gridded point cloud data. A PTX file may contain separate scans with registration transforms to a single coordinate system.

PTX is used for import and export of gridded point cloud data.

LFM (.zfc)

ZFC is LFM's binary format for gridded scan data. ZFC files may contain registration transforms.

ZFC is used for import of gridded point cloud data.

DotProduct (.dp)

DP is DotProduct's binary format for scan data. The use of optimized DP files is recommended.

DP is used for import of unified point cloud data.

LASer (.las)

libLAS is a library for reading and writing geospatial data encoded in the ASPRS laser (LAS) file format.

LAS is used for import of unified cloud data.

ASCII Point Cloud (.txt, .asc, .pts)

ASCII based interchange formats for unified point cloud data in the form of: [X,Y,Z] Spatial, [R,G,B] Color (Intensity), [I,J,K] Point normal.

ASCII Point Cloud is used for import and export of unified point cloud data.

Industry Foundation Classes (.ifc)

The Industry Foundation Classes IFC specification is a neutral data format to describe, exchange and share information typically used within the building and facility management industry sector.

IFC is used for import of BIM data.

Filmbox (.fbx)

FBX (Filmbox) is a proprietary file format (.fbx) developed by Kaydara and owned by Autodesk since 2006. It is used to provide interoperability between digital content creation applications.

FBX is used for import of polygonal mesh data.

COLLADA (.dae)

COLLADA (COLLAborative Design Activity) is an interchange file format for interactive 3D applications. It is managed by the nonprofit technology consortium Khronos Group.

COLLADA is used for import and export of polygonal mesh data.
